Changing your authoritative name servers to DNS Central
Before a domain will work with any of DNS Central's services (web and e-mail forwarding, name service, etc.), it must be changed to show DNS Central's name servers as its "authoritative name servers." This is accomplished via what is called a domain "modification" or domain "transfer."
Below you will find general steps on transferring "authoritative control" of your domain name to the DNS Central name servers. Please send e-mail to service@dnscentral.com if you have additional questions about this procedure.

BIZ, COM, INFO, NET, ORG and US Domains
There are many organizations (i.e. registrars) that register these domains and the procedures to update your name servers vary. As we find out information about each of the new registrars' procedures, we will update this web page.
Registrar | To change name servers |
---|---|
Internic / Network Solutions |
If your domain was registered via Networks Solutions or the old Internic service (most ISP registered domains were done via Internic), you will need to submit a domain modification request via e-mail. To do this, first access the Domain Name Modification Form, enter your e-mail address and domain name, select the "Modify Existing Domain Name Registration" option and click "Proceed". Change the primary and secondary server hostname and netaddress to those shown in the Name Server and Technical Information section below. Submit the form for processing and Network Solutions will e-mail a copy to you. When you receive the copy of the modification form, you must immediately e-mail it back to them (reply usually works) without making any changes. Once they receive the e-mailed form, they will begin processing the request and may send additional confirmation e-mails before they will complete the request. Hopefully if all goes well, the changes will be completed within a few days. |
WorldNIC, NSI RegistrationPlus or NSI-hosted domains | For all domains or "web addresses" reserved via Networks Solutions WorldNIC or RegistrationPlus service (aka NSI-hosted), you can attempt to modify the domain information online or call Network Solutions at 888.642.9675 or 703.742.0914 and request that they change the name servers and technical contact to those shown in the Name Server and Technical Information section below. |
Register.com | Go to register.com, log into the Domain Manager using the information provided to you by Register.com and change the name servers to those shown in the Name Server and Technical Information section below. |
OpenSRS / Tucows.com / DNS Central | Most OpenSRS domains can be modified via our Manage Your Domain Registration page. However it may be necessary to manage your domain at the Registration Service Provider site where you registered it. Once you have logged into the management system, select Manage Name Servers and change the primary and secondary hostname to those shown in the Name Server and Technical Information section below. |
Country Code Domains
To update a country code domain, please refer to the table below. If the country code domain that you want to use with DNS Central services is not listed, you will need to contact the registry for the domain yourself. This is usually the person or organization who registered the domain for you. Ask them to change the name servers to those shown in the Name Server and Technical Information section below.
Country Code | To change name servers |
---|---|
.nu | Go to the .NU Customer logon page, log in using your e-mail address and .NU Domain password. Select "modify", then "edit information", provide the information as requested and change the name server and technical contact to those shown in the Name Server and Technical Information section below. Note that the .NU Registry may charge a nominal fee to update your domain information. |

I am having trouble changing my name servers
Sometimes you may encounter problems when attempting to modify your domain information. Possible reasons include invalid or old contact information, current contacts are uncooperative, etc. If so, please see our page that addresses transfer trouble issues.
